YOLA — Chafari Shadrach Kanya, a lawyer by profession who hails from Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa state has emerged as the Director-General of the West Africa Gas Pipeline Authority.

Chafari Shadrach Kanya is the first Nigerian and first female to occupy the seat of DG of the multinational economy-based organisation.

WAGPA is an international organisation established by a treaty between Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana to regulate trans-border gas pipelines laid from offshore Nigeria to the four countries at the moment.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has congratulated and noted that the organisation made the right choice.

In a statement by Governor Fintiri Media Aide, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, the Governor was optimistic that Chafari will make a difference having served the organisation in different capacities before her elevation as DG.

“The victory is “Path-breaking and a matter of immense pride not just to WAGPA, but for all Adamawa and Nigerian citizens. Congratulations on your momentous victory.

“Congratulations. I am proud of your well-run campaign and looking forward to seeing the positive changes you bring to the West Africa Gas Pipeline Authority.”

“As number one citizen of Adamawa, I could not be prouder to congratulate the next Director-General. I know Chafari will do the job in the best interests of everyone, whether or not she had their votes.

“Many are counting on you to lead the way. By voting for you, WAGPA has proved again that the unity of the organisation is strong.

“I am certain that WAGPA is set for transformation and consolidation of achievements of the outgoing Director-General. Your emergence is not just a victory to Nigeria, but WAGPA that would experience continuity in terms of standard and decorum in administration,” the statement said.

Fintiri stressed the need for the staff of the organisation to give Chafari Kanya a chance and lend her support.
