YOLA — The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old Tijjani Halidu, resident of Luggere in Ganye town of Ganye Local Government Area for an attempt to commit suicide.
The suspect had drunk herbicides to commit suicide on the ground that he was denied of marrying a lady whom they were in courtship for years.
According to the suspect, Tijjani Halidu he had paid a dowry and fulfilled some of the marriage rituals in preparation to marry one Sharifa Ahmadu, but to his astonishment, he was informed that the lady will not be married off to him.
He explained that because of that he decided to commit suicide and drunk herbicides.
Halidu, who now regretted his action, pleaded for leniency.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State Police Command DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed the story, explained that on 8.2.2022 Police receive a report that a young man had attempted to commit suicide and Police immediately rushed to the scene and took, the suspect to General Hospital for medication where his life was rescued.
PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in the state has directed an investigation and subsequent prosecution of the suspect.
