LAGOS — The Civil Society and Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) says over 2,334 persons lost their lives in different bandits’ attacks in 2021, and expressed concern over the rise in cases of terrorist attacks in the country.

CISLAC made its position known during a Focus Group Discussion on Barriers and Bridges to Accountability in the Defence and Security Sector organised for journalists on the security beat and advocacy groups in Lagos.

CISLAC Executive Director, Auwal Ibrahim Musa Rafsanjani, represented by a board member, Barrister Oke Adesina, said 2021 witnessed over 935 attacks and that the number might increase in 2022 if proactive measures are not taken by the federal government.

It organized the event in collaboration with the Transparency International Defence Security Programme and was supported by Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The body decried the state of insecurity, lamenting that the nation’s security architecture was collapsing as terrorists now operate with reckless abandon.
