YOLA — To ensure quality health care delivery in both public and private health institutions, the Adamawa state, Nursing and Midwifery Council Committee has vowed to fish out quacks in the profession

Mr. Obadia Joel, state chairman of the Council who disclosed this while speaking with Journalists in his office in Yola, declared that any practicing Nursing that fails to renew its license after expiration will be regarded as a quack.

“The council as a regulatory body regulates the activities of Nurses and Midwives in the state for them to operate in line with the global best practice of the profession.

“The Council will soon tour all private and public health care centres in the state so as to verify licensed Nurses with a view to fish out those yet to renew their license.

“The committee will ensure that every member renews its license to enable him practice, and the general public would be enlightened on community Nursing and Midwifery introduced in conjunction with the College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola,” he said.

He said the council will soon set up a Disciplinary Tribunal Committee to address issues of indiscipline among members in the state, and solicited support from the media and public.

Joel, who is also Director Nursing at the Adamawa state Ministry of Health, appeals to the public and the media to continue according to necessary support and cooperation to the Nurses and Midwives for optimum performance.

He explained that last year the council had conducted a mandatory continuous development for members, secured a reaccreditation of four programmes run by the College of Nursing and Midwifery Yola after five years, and a befitting office at the Federal Secretariat Yola.

Joel said lack of funds is a major challenge hindering smooth operations of the committee, noting that the Committee drives funds mainly from the registration of members.
