AWKA — As part of the build-up to his exit from office after eight years, Governor Willie Obiano has today commissioned the ten thousand capacity International Convention Centre built tastefully and furnished to standard.  With only minor finishing touches left, Governor Obiano decided to commission the project which is one of his signature projects.

A cross-section of guests inside the Anambra International Convention Centre –AICC, which was officially commissioned by Governor Obiano on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, in Awka.

The commissioning of the Convention Centre was also marked with a merit award to deserving Anambra State indigenes and other non-indigenes who have partnered with the governor to make his modest contributions in the people’s collective drive to move the state forward. Obiano also recognized the efforts of his Executive Council Members in his efforts governing Anambra State in the past eight years. Unfailingly, the Anambra State Executive Council led by Governor Obiano will have its final meeting within the week as part of the governor’s final activities as governor of Anambra State.

Among those recognized and honoured with merit award today were captains of industries including Coscharis Group Chairman, Mr. Cosmas Maduka, Innoson Group Chairman, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Stanel Group CEO, Stanley Uzochukwu, Chairman of Chisco Transport, among many other distinguished Anambra businessmen and captains of industry. Political leaders were also recognized and honoured among those who include, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, Hon. Chris Azubogu and others. In the professional and academia, many Anambra professionals of excellent reputation were recognized and honoured.

The event was well attended with thousands of people, observers, well-wishers, supporters of the governor, and traditional leaders including Obo of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe who was the royal father of the day, and Igwe Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu III. Statesmen like Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezife were fully present.

Government functionaries from all the arms of the government of Anambra State were present including the Chief Judge of Anambra State, the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Pascal Agbodike, and many members of the House of Assembly.

As part of marking the event of Obiano’s exit after eight years, a book entitled “Akpokuedike: Duty Call in Anambra State”, written by Prince Ike Chioke of Afriinvest was presented and the 15 chapter book was reviewed by Prof. Osita.

So far, in what is like a surprise to many, Governor Obiano’s exit has been extremely intellectually engaging particularly in terms of documenting what has been done and how in books. Only yesterday, a book was also presented to show what the governor’s wife did with her NGO and how she did it.

With only eight days to go, it is expected that more engaging activities will mark Governor Obiano’s last days in office as Governor of Anambra State, both signaling and wrapping up his political and governance legacies in eight years.
