ABUJA — Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, endorsed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the ruling party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
Tinubu visited the National Assembly to address the APC caucus in the Senate and House, in continuation of his engagement and consultations with critical stakeholders on his 2023 aspiration.
In his opening address, the Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who described Tinubu as the only candidate for the Presidency, told his colleagues that nobody else had shown genuine interest or campaigned to be President next year apart from Tinubu.
“No one else is contesting but one man, Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the Speaker said.
Challenging those intending to vie for the Presidency to desist from giving flimsy excuses to declare their intention, the Speaker maintained that it does not speak well of a party that boasts as the largest political party in the continent, not to see anyone that could rival Tinubu barely seven weeks to the APC party primary.
“I personally think it is wrong we are only hearing of names and nobody is campaigning,” Hon. Gbajabiamila noted.
He described Tinubu’s visit as “epic” and “historic”, being the first presidential aspirant to visit the House to seek the support of members.
Addressing the lawmakers, the former Lagos state governor said he was simply there with all humility, but with the requisite qualifications, to seek their support to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
“I am here to seek your support for my life-long ambition. To step into the shoes of President Buhari in 2023, and not to step on his shoes,” he told a jubilant caucus.
He averred that he is the most serious, most qualified, most experienced and most prepared to offer service to the nation as the President, saying, “No other one in the race, hidden or open. I am the only one in the race that is most competent, most qualified to be your President.”
While soliciting for the lawmakers’ endorsement, he urged them to mobilise all their supporters to vote for him at the party primary.
Thereafter, House Leader, Alhassan Doguwa, put the question to his colleagues asking whether it was their wish to endorse Bola Tinubu for the 2023 race, to which they all answered in the affirmative without any dissenting voice.
