US Rapper and Actor, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face on stage during the 94th Academy Awards (Oscars) on Sunday night after the comedian made a joke about the hairstyle of the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Rock, presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy routine, had cracked a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith’s tightly cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane” and suggesting she appear in a sequel – seemingly a reference to her shaved head.
“Jada, I love ya,” Rock said. “G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it. All right?”
Reacting, Will Smith stood up, stormed onstage and smacked a stunned Rock in the face.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth,” yelled Smith, again seated in the audience, forcing the producers to bleep out several seconds of audio from the televised broadcast in the United States.
Jada Pinkett Smith, who is also an actress, suffers from alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss and publicly revealed her diagnosis in 2018.
Meanwhile, Will Smith won the Best Actor award for his role in the biographical drama, King Richard.
