Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo who only at the weekend celebrated a record-setting hat-trick against Norwich has now been thrown in a mourning mood following the passing of his baby boy.
The football star, 37, and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, 28, announced the death of their newborn son in a joint heartfelt statement posted on social media on Monday.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel,” the statement said.
In the statement, the couple, who announced in October 2020 that they were expecting twins, continued: “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
The couple also took the opportunity to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and medical staff for “all their expert care and support”.
“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you,” they wrote.
On social media, the news of the baby’s death has been met with an outpouring of condolences from throughout the footballing world, friends, and loved ones.
The official Manchester United Instagram account shared a message of sympathy, with the team writing: “Your pain is our pain. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”
