YOLA — In commemoration of the 2022 Workers’ day celebration, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has allocated 600 units of houses out of the 1,000 Housing Estate at Malkohi, a suburb in the state capital to workers.

 The theme for this year’s workers’ day is “Labour, Politics and the Quest for Good Governance In Nigeria.”

The Governor while delivering his speech to mark the day held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola on Sunday, said the government has invested in the security and infrastructure, and it is pursuing favourable policies that will attract investors to the state.

He described workers as an integral part of the success story in the state, and commended them for remaining supportive in his administration.

“Government has introduced a new method of paying leave transport grant allowances, and cleared the backlogs of gratuity and pension of retired workers.

“This administration has commenced migration of local government retirees to e-payment among several other issues of workers welfare.

“The present administration has ensured implementation of the minimum wage and consequential adjustment while wages are paid as when due.

Fintiri disclosed that the government will donate a 13-seater bus to the Adamawa State Chapter of the Nigeria labour Congress while other unions will follow suit after.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe commended Governor Fintiri for the release of N2.8 billion for payment of gratuity.

He called on the Governor to assent to the media bill which was recently passed by the state Assembly.

The chairman called for the implementation of the minimum wage at the local government level and payment of arrears of consequential adjustment of the National minimum wage.
