KANO — Two men have been reported dead while making efforts to recover a cell phone that fell inside a pit toilet.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.

The victims, Haruna Abdullahi (30) and Adamu Danjummai (45) died after being trapped in a pit toilet at Aku Village in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday.

Abdullahi said, “We received an emergency call from Gaya fire station at about 07:15 a.m. from one Ali Ahmed, that two men had been trapped inside a pit toilet.

“The men were trying to bring out a cellphone that fell inside the pit toilet. We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 07:25 a.m.”

The Public Relations Officer narrated that Abdullahi was using the cell phone in the toilet and it fell inside the pit toilet.

Abdullahi entered the toilet with the intention to pick up his cellphone and got trapped. His brother, Danjummai went inside to rescue him and got trapped too.

He added that the victims were brought out of the pit latrine unconscious but later confirmed dead.

Abdullahi said their corpses have been handed over to the village head of Aku, Adamu Isyaku.
