A centre conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in Anambra state says it will not open on Monday in observance of the weekly sit-at-home foisted by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) across the South-East region.
IPOB enforced the Monday lockdown across the South-East since its leader, Maazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted from Kenya in June 2021.
Ngozi Nwude-Nduka, the administrator at Integral Development Consult, Awka, said it took the decision on the ongoing Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams as a precautionary measure.
“We want to play safe for the safety of the candidates as possibilities of non-vehicular movement may be experienced and hinder smooth transportation process for candidates who will come from far and near for the said examination,” she remarked.
Nwude-Nduka further advised affected candidates to reprint their examination slips to know their new dates for the examination.
She also urged other candidates for Tuesday, May 10, and Wednesday, May 11 examination schedule to be on time at the centre to avoid lateness to their examination centers.
