ENUGU — Barrister Peter Mbah has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu state gubernatorial Candidate for 2023 General elections in the PDP Primary elections held on Wednesday.

Mbah, a legal practitioner, businessman, and former Commissioner for Finance hails from Nkanu East in Enugu East District where the party zoned the 2023 governorship ticket.

Barr. Mbah in his speech after his emergence as PDP Governorship flag bearer promised to build on the achievements of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration in service to the good people of Enugu State with humility and modesty, openness and inclusiveness, simplicity and forthrightness.

He acknowledged his party members and delegates for their unflinching support; also the members of the PDP Governorship Electoral Panel from the party’s National Working Committee as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the Enugu State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Emeka Joseph Ononamadu for their roles in conduct of the elections.

Mbah further appreciated eight out of the seventeen Governorship aspirants that stepped down for him. “You ceded your ambition for me and I am eternally grateful for your understanding, cooperation and sacrifices,” he said.

For the Governorship primary election, there were 812 accredited delegates, 807 total votes casted, 804 valid and 3 invalid votes; Mbah scored 790 while his closest opponent secured 9 votes.

In a similar development, the current serving Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also won the Enugu North Senatorial District ticket.

Ugwuanyi was declared winner by Prince Vin Yandev Amabei Chairman of the five-man Electoral Panel from the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) after he got 299 valid votes thus defeating three opponents namely Mr. Okanya Celestine, Chief Eze Godwin Ikechukwu, and Prof. Godsmark Edward Ugwu.
