LAGOS — A yet-to-be-identified man has been rescued by patrol officers of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) after he attempted to jump into the Lagos lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge on Wednesday.
In footage posted by the LCC on its Twitter handle, a female patrol officer and some onlookers were seen urging the young man, who held onto the bridge railing in a move to jump into the lagoon, not to jump into the lagoon.
“You will see the connection (helper). You are a man, it is okay. You are a man, you are a man. Don’t die. Your future is bright. Come let me find work for you. Your future is bright. My darling, it is okay,” the officer was heard saying in the video, offering the young man hope.
The person behind the camera was also heard calling on passersby in Yoruba to help in restraining the man from jumping into the lagoon. “Please, help us hold him,” the voice said
The young man, who was in tears as he was helped to move away from the bridge, was afterward handed over to the police, according to a tweet by the company.
“Thanks to the quick intervention of LCC Patrol Officers, a young man was saved from committing suicide on Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge. He has been handed over to the Police,” the tweet read.
