Ahead of the June 9, 2022, deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to conclude their primaries, 16 of the 18 registered political parties have produced their presidential candidates
Below is the list of parties that have produced their flag bearers:
- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – Atiku Abubakar
- All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – Peter Umeadi
- Labour Party (LP) – Peter Obi
- Accord Party (AP) – Christopher Imumolen
- New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) – Rabiu Kwankwaso
- Young Progressive Party (YPP) – Malik Ado-Ibrahim
- All Progressives Congress (APC) – Bola Tinubu
- Action Alliance (AA) – Hamza Al Mustapha
- African Democratic Congress (ADC) – Dumebi Kachikwu
- National Rescue Movement (NRM) – Okwudili Nwa-Anyajike
- African Action Congress (AAC) – Omoyele Sowore
- Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) – Kola Abiola
- Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) – Dan Nwanyanwu
- Allied People’s Movement (APM) – Yusuf Dantalle
- Boot Party (BP) – Sunday Adenuga
- Social Democratic Party (SDP) – Adewole Adebayo
At the time of this report, two parties, the African Democratic Party (ADP), and Action Peoples Party (APP) have yet to produce their candidates.
Meanwhile, INEC has fixed Friday, June 17, 2022, as the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their presidential candidates and running mates, alongside their candidates for Senate and House of Representatives.
“For the next one week from tomorrow 10th June 2022, all political parties are required to submit their list of candidates for national elections (presidential/vice-presidential, senatorial and house of representatives) latest by Friday 17th June 2022,” Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said at a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja on Thursday.
He also issued Friday 15 July, 2022, as the deadline for the parties to submit names of gubernatorial candidates and their running mates.
“For state elections (governorship/deputy governorship and state houses of assembly), the list of candidates shall be uploaded from 1st to 15th July 2022 as already provided in the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general election already released by the commission,” Yakubu added.
