AWKA — The Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC in Anambra State, has opened additional twenty-five registration centres across the state, according to Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State.

In a media parley today, the Anambra INEC chief announced formally that registration of voters has resumed in Idemili North local government INEC office since June 7th. Recall that the REC had assured that the Idemili North INEC office would be reopened for operations last week Tuesday. Dr. Orji also remarked that registration exercise has also commenced both in Ogbaru and Anyamelum local government areas, today.

“I am pleased to announce that the Commission has created additional 25 registration centres in Anambra State and they commenced operation by 9.00am today… the additional centres bring the total number of centres in Anambra State to 87. We have reopened some LGA offices that were shut down as a result of insecurity. Specifically on Tuesday, 7 June 2022, the Idemili North LGA office was reopened. Today, 14 June 2022, we have resumed registration exercise in Ogbaru and Anyamelum LGAs.” the REC said.

The Anambra INEC REC also noted that they have reorganized their operational procedure for more effective service delivery to the people. “We have reorganized our operational procedure by separating people seeking biometric services from those that require non-biometric services. In this sense, biometric services involve fresh registration while non-biometric services include request for PVC replacement, voter transfer, and update”.  According to Dr. Nkwachukwu, the non-biometric services can be obtained online through the CVR website. He however assured that personnel have been deployed at the registration centres, to assist those who are unable to assess the INEC portal for the non-biometric services.

Reiterating that cases of misconduct by INEC staff members in Anambra State should be reported to the State office through the following WhatsApp number; 07043528329, the Anambra REC assured members of the public that the Commission is ready to serve the people better and ensure maximum service delivery to the people.

In the meantime, members are of the public are reminded that the ongoing CVR which commenced since June 2021, is scheduled to end by the end of June 2022; that is in about two weeks.
