EducationNigeria Has 13 Million Out Of School Children

Monday Osasah, Executive Director of African Center for Leadership, Strategy and Development, says currently Nigeria has an estimated 13million out-of-school children and the Northern part of the country accounts for 60%.

Osasah gave the astounding figure at a one-day sub-National Summit on Girl-child Education and Premier of the C-CAGE Documentary held at Nurses House Jimeta organized by the African Center for Leadership Strategy and Development with support from Malala Foundation.

The Executive Director added that the center focuses on girl child Education because girls account for over 60% of out-of-school children.

“The center is also meant to conceptualize and address the growing menace of the 13million out-of-school children in Nigeria which is the world’s highest number.

“The vision of the center is to work with forces of positive change to empower citizens to transform the society,” Osasah said.

Mr Osasah enumerated the successes recorded in Adamawa to include enrollment of 1,451out school girls into Secondary School in three focal local governments of Numan, Song and Maiha, establishment of 25 safe spaces across the three local governments with 1,072 out-of-school girls for learning basic numeracy and vocational skills.

In his remark, Pwamakaino Mackondo, Deputy Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, lauded the effort of the African center for leadership strategy and Development and Malala foundation for supporting Adamawa State in the area of Girl-child Education.

There were goodwill messages from the State Commissioner of Higher Education Mr Dishon kwobe, the representatives of village heads of Numan, Song and Maiha, representative of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, and The chairman of Universal Basic Education Board, and parents among others.

The highlight of the event with a theme “Girl child Education, a veritable tool for development was presentation on girl child Education by Barrister Jamila Suleiman, panel discussion, and Documentary.
