His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Wednesday, declared July 9 as Eid al-Adha.
Sultan also declared Thursday, June 30, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1443 A.H.
In a statement issued by the National Moon sighting Committee, the Sultan urged Muslims to intensify prayers during the period.
The statement read in part “Eid al-Adha will be on Saturday, 10th Zul-Hijjah 1443H (9th July 2022) InSha Allah”.
Eidul Adha is the second significant celebration in Islam that featured the slaughtering of ram during the period known as the “festival of sacrifice”.
The first is Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Ramadan fast.
