ENUGU — As part of her oversight function, the Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology have embarked on fact findings to unravel the amount and personnel involved in the alleged fraud of 120million naira from the coffers of the Enugu State College of Education and Technical, ESCET, Enugu.
The Chairman of the Committee, James Akadu, a member representing the Igbo-Etiti West constituency said it is totally unacceptable that such Internally Generated Revenue by the institution be siphoned by unscrupulous individuals while staff is being owed salary.
After a brief interrogation of the staff of Bluetag Technologies present at the first meeting, Akadu directed the Committee Secretary to issue a letter of invitation to all Management staff of ESCET and Bluetag Technologies to appear before the committee on Tuesday, 26th of July, 2022 by 11am.
The Chairman also mandates that Bluetag Technologies furnish the Committee with the Police Investigation Report while ESCET are expected to release the forensic auditor’s report.
Speaking to the Committee, the Chief Operating Officer Bluetag Technologies, Imere Samuel said their company is as committed to unraveling the fraud as the House of Assembly.
The COO revealed, “On getting complaints with regards to possible forged receipts, our Company instituted a process audit and it is the outcome of this audit that led to the escalation of the incidence of forged receipt for which a petition was drafted by the Company’s lawyer to the State CID;”
“We also notified the Institution of the possibility of fraud, got the investigators to address the school and determine the way forward to uncovering those and amount involved”.
