ABUJA — Award-winning singer and guitarist, Bukola Elemide, professionally known as Asa, on Tuesday performed her song Fire On The Mountain at the launching of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

On Tuesday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) transited fully into a commercial entity, becoming the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The event, which was held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja had in attendance several dignitaries and top government officials, including President Muhammadu Buhari.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva; and the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari were also in attendance.

Dressed in a sombre all-black attire, Asa performed her hit song, Fire On The Mountain, which was released in 2007.

Against an upbeat and catchy guitar-led beat, the Paris-born, Lagos-raised singer sang: “There is fire on the mountain, and nobody seems to be on the run. Oh! there is fire on the mountain top and no one is running.”

Asa’s performance at the event comes at a time when there have been several complaints about the state of the nation.

Nigerians have continued to applaud the singer on social media for passing such a powerful message with her song to the president and other top government officials.
