ENUGU — The Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corps Enugu state command has warned all and sundry that the rights of children must remain inviolable and sacrosanct.
The state Commandant Aloysius Obiorah said this recently at his office in the NSCDC Enugu State Command Headquarters when he played host to a delegate of the Network against Child Abuse and Trafficking (NACTAL), an umbrella organisation of Nigerian non-governmental organizations engaged in advocacy and campaign for children’s rights, anti-human trafficking, human rights abuse and child labour.
The State Commandant warned perpetrators of abuse against children and human trafficking cartels, that it will no longer be business as usual.
Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator of NACTAL, Mrs Amarachi Kene solicited support from the NSCDC in the fight against child abuse including sexual abuse and other forms of maltreatment against children.
She recalled that over the years NSCDC had been a staunch supporter of the group.
She said further that the group was on a campaign in Enugu to sensitize the populace on the evils of child abuse, child labour and child trafficking which like a triplet devil deprives the full potential of our children.
In his response, the NSCDC State Commandant empathized with victims of child abuse and maltreatment while assuring the delegate of the NSCDC robust support and appealed to the coalition as well as the general public to report all cases of such abuses for decisive action and prompt arrest of the perpetrators.
In conclusion, the State Commandant lauded the giant strides of the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni who is bent on repositioning the Corps for effective service delivery to the nation.
