Super Falcon’s striker, Asisat Oshoala, has been named 2022 CAF women’s Player of the Year.

With this win, Oshoala, who had won the best African female footballer award in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019, becomes the first player in history to win five African players of the year awards, going beyond former Falcon’s striker, Perpetua Nkwocha.

In the men’s category, Senegal forward, Sadio Mane won the 2022 CAF Player of the Year award.

Mane clinched the award for the second time after beating his compatriot Edouard Mendy and former Liverpool teammate, Mohammed Salah, to the continent’s most prestigious individual accolade.

Senegal’s national team head coach, Aliou Cisse was named the Coach of the Year, after leading his team to their first continental title and another FIFA World Cup qualification.

Senegal’s national football team, the Lions of Teranga, were also named the National Team of the Year, after winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January in Cameroon.

The awards were held at the impressive Mohamed VI Technical Centre in Sale, Rabat and was attended by a gathering of Africa’s top football personalities and football stars.

There were musical performances by Nigerian afrobeat queen, Tiwa Savage and Ivorian supergroup, Magic System at the event, which was hosted by Cameroonian actress and presenter, Sophy Aiida and Moroccan journalist, Jalal Bouzrara.

Nigerian singer, Davido also presented an award at the 2022 edition of the major African sporting event.
