Google released its list of the top searches for the first half of 2022 on Thursday.
The top searches highlighted personalities, music, musicians, movies, high-profile deaths, actors, moments, sports, as well as sportsmen.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Relations Manager, Google West Africa, said in a statement that the first half of 2020 had been eventful with high-profile deaths, politics, and personalities among others.
Kola-Ogunlade noted that such trends and searches were as a result of happenings and events of interest that caught people’s attention.
Olu Jacobs, the veteran Nollywood actor who celebrated his 80th birthday on 11 July 2022 led the list of top trending actors in Nigeria while Blood Sisters, a Nigerian series on Netflix starring Nancy Isime and Ini Dima-Okojie topped the list of top trending movies and TV Series by Nigerians from January to June 2022.
Oxlade was the most searched artiste while Buga by Kizz Daniel, featuring Tekno was the number one trending song in the period under review.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) takes the top spot in the category of trending personalities. Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and Madam Bianca Ojukwu, who made headlines when she slapped Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, the wife of immediate past governor of Anambra, Chief Willie Obiano, took the second and third spot respectively.
Top of the list of notable deaths is that of gospel singers, Osinachi Nwachukwu and Chinedu Nwadike.
