Various media/news websites reported on Sunday that award-winning author, Chimamanda Adichie lost her sister.

According to the reports, a 40-year-old woman, Nkiru Okoye, was attacked and killed by assailants in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The deceased, a wife of a mechanical engineer, Emenike Okoye, was reported to have been lynched while her husband was brutalised, over the ownership of some disputed landed property.

The reports making waves on the Internet claimed that the deceased was related to renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie.

However, The West African Pilot gathered that Mrs Okoye was neither Adichie’s sister nor a relative.

Refuting claims that the author’s sister was attacked and killed, Omawumi Ogbe, a PR executive for the author, said, “She (Adichie) is quite shaken by this news that was put out without confirmation. It’s completely false. Her sister was not murdered.”

Ogbe added, “We send our sympathy to the family of the murdered lady.”
