ENUGU — The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his immense support and cooperation with the Nigerian Army in the effective discharge of her responsibilities in the state and beyond.

Speaking on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Lion building, Enugu State Government House, Independence Layout Enugu, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Umar Musa, reiterated the COAS appreciation even as he informed the Governor of his appointment and assumption of duty as the new GOC.

Maj. Gen. Musa further stated his predecessor Maj. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja’s assessment of the state and government; “Governor Ugwuanyi cooperates and supports the soldiers to discharge their duties in Enugu State.”

“Enugu is a peaceful state and I assure the Governor and the state that I will ensure that Enugu state and the entire South Eastern states are safe and peaceful,” Maj Gen Musa stated.

82 Division Nigeria Army established in 1975 with headquarters in Enugu is charged with the responsibility of securing its Area of Responsibility, AOR, covering the five states in South Eastern Nigeria and Cross River State of South South Nigeria.

“Before embarking on courtesy visits to states within 82 Division AOR, we have to pay a visit to our host Governor; this is the first visit after assumption of office,” Maj Gen Musa said.

“I commend the Governor for his sustained hospitality, support, and cooperation to the Nigerian Army, and state clearly my mandate to ensure that everywhere is peaceful; I will do my best to ensure that the Southeastern states particularly Enugu is peaceful,” reiterates the new GOC, Maj Gen. Musa.

In his response, the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi welcomed the new GOC to the State and reiterates his administration’s commitment to the security and welfare of the people.

“When there is peace there is development, hence my administration is interested in everything concerning the military and other security agencies; we are going to work together,” Ugwuanyi said.

Recall that on 28 July 2022, in an effort to reposition the Nigerian Army for operational efficiency and proficiency, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya appointed and posted some senior officers of the Nigerian Army to commands across NA formations and units.

82 Division was affected by the redeployment; the former GOC Major General TA Lagbaja was redeployed to Headquarters 1 Division and appointed GOC, and Major General UT Musa from Headquarters 81 Division was redeployed to Headquarters 82 Division and appointed GOC.
