ENUGU — The Enugu State Government has signed an agreement with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA, to take over the formerly state-owned diagnostic center located opposite All Saints Anglican Church, along Garden Avenue, Enugu.

Consequently, the Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Centre, Enugu henceforth will be known as Medical Diagnostic and Oncology (Cancer) Treatment Centre.

Benefits of the takeover to the state and her environs according to the Senior Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media, Louis Amoke include an upgrade of the centre to comprehensive medical, diagnostic and oncology (cancer) treatment services.

Mr. Uche Orji, Managing Director NSIA disclosed this at the agreement signing event stating that funds will be deployed to build, equip, maintain and operate modern health facilities across the country, upgrading such facilities to modern medical diagnostic centres thus providing access to advanced healthcare services for the benefit of lower income families with limited access to care and significantly enhance Nigeria’s ability to treat life-threatening Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

The NSIA MD further disclosed that Enugu State is not the only state the agency signed lease and collaboration agreements with; other states the agency entered agreements with for the expansion of diagnostic services include Kwara state and Kaduna state.

Mr. Orji however commended the beneficiary states for the expedited actions on negotiations with NSIA resulting to the signing of agreements as witnessed this day.

In her response, the Enugu State Government represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, expressed gratitude for the successful sealing of the agreement thus enabling the state to benefit from the healthcare expansion initiative.

“The healthcare expansion initiative is in tandem with the state government’s vision and commitment to quality healthcare service delivery for the people of Enugu State and beyond,” Ezeilo said.

While Mrs. Ezeilo, Deputy Governor signed the agreement on behalf of the Enugu State Government, the Managing Director of the NSIA, Mr. Uche Orji, signed on behalf of the Agency at the Kano Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The signing of the agreement between the Enugu State Government and the NSIA was witnessed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Miletus Eze; the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Enugu, Prof. Malachy Okwueze and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi.
