The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari says peace in the forthcoming 2023 general election will further make the country’s position as the giant of Africa.

He who stated this in Abuja at a one-day political parties’ summit on curbing electoral violence, noted that it was time politicians saw the country as a precious gem deserving of all the care it needs to survive as no nation can thrive in an atmosphere of chaos.

“In the build-up to the 2023 general election, we at the NOA urge political parties and their supporters not to procure violence as a strategy for winning elections. Politicians should be mindful of the fact that if violence increases, their chances of electoral success would be greatly diminished”, he said.

In his comments, the Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), an umbrella body of all registered Political Parties in Nigeria, Yabagi Sani assured Nigerians that politicians have agreed to ensure a violent-free 2023 general election.

“IPAC is working out a modality that will see to a change of attitude in the nation’s politics. We want a situation where politicians will choose members of their cabinet from other opposition parties which are a total movement from what is obtainable today where all appointees are from the same political party.”

“Whoever emerges victorious in the elections should shun the attitude of winner takes it all syndrome, but rather embrace other important personalities who can deliver if they are available from other opposition parties,” he said.

Other stakeholders at the summit including, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, youth and women groups also pledged to work with the NOA and political parties to ensure a violent-free elections next year.
