The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made a certificate of fitness mandatory for registration by prospective corps members with effect from the 2022 batch ‘C’ orientation course.

Eddy Megwa, the spokesperson of the NYSC, said the new policy is to ascertain the health status of corps members given the regimentation and physical demands of some activities that are undertaken by corps members during the orientation programme.

“In view of the regimentation and physical demands of some activities of the NYSC orientation programme, the management of the scheme introduced the presentation of a certificate of fitness from recognised public health facilities by prospective corps members as a requirement for registration at the orientation camp in order to avail the scheme credible information on their health status and also protect them from exploitation by unscrupulous persons,” he said.

“The essence is to enable camp officials manage those who are not fit to undertake certain activities in the camp.”

He urged prospective corps members to comply with the directive.
