President of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Amb. Belusochukwu Enwere, has warned youths to desist from violence and electoral violence in the forthcoming election.

Enwere made the appeal during YOWICAN leadership Retreat at Christ Holy Church, Awka, saying the era of politicians using youths as thugs to snatch ballot boxes and cause violence was over.

He clarified that CAN had not endorsed any presidential candidate and therefore warned against campaigning in the churches. Rather, he urged Christians to vote according to their conscience.

He said: “We are preaching for peace in Nigeria. The 2023 Nigeria general election is essential and we have to preach peace to all the places. You should take the message to the hinterland. Peace building starts with the youths before it is taken to other places. So, peace is paramount in whatever we do especially this election period.

“Youths are saying no to violence. We don’t want to be used to cause violent or used as thugs in this coming election. Don’t allow yourself to be used as thugs. We don’t want pre-election or post-election violence. We need good leaders, go and get your PVC to cast your vote to your preferred candidate and good candidate.

He further told journalists to report facts and not overheat the polite by writing incisive reports capable of causing a crisis, noting that media reports can shape or destroy the country.
