The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency- ARTMA, has dismissed five of its ad-hoc enforcement team members, as a result of extorting money due to road users, which amounted to gross misconduct. The five officers dismissed were indicted in a N25, 000 extortion of an innocent road user in Onitsha.

Upon reaching the ARTMA customer care line and making her complaint, the extorted road user gave the engagement number of the officers, written on their uniform vests. Consequently, the officers involved were traced and recalled for investigation.

After the investigation, they were found culpable and therefore dismissed.

Meanwhile, the officers involved were ordered by the management of ARTMA to pay the road user her money back in full. And the N25, 000 extorted from her was duly returned to her.

The dismissed officers are; Emeka Nwafor, with number 266. Kosarachukwu Chinedu, with number 259. Aniekwe Obiora, with number 277. Nnamdi Ifeanyi, with number 272, and Areh Uche Okechukwu with number 272.

The Managing Director of ARTMA, Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, in his reaction to the development, has assured the general public that the Agency will not condone indiscipline among its officers, or any form of rascality against law-abiding road users in Anambra State.
