The eight-year-old marriage between Anita Okoye and Paul Okoye of the singing group PSquare has crashed following the divorce granted to the couple by a high court in Abuja.
The divorce is coming after over one year of separation by the couple. In August 2021, Anita requested the dissolution of their marriage after rumours of the couple’s split spread like wildfire on social media in April.
Anita, in the official petition, cited infidelity, and irreconcilable differences among others as the basis for the divorce. She also accused her husband of cheating her out of a N10 million deal.
The petition read: “That I know as a fact that the petitioner founded a company called TannkCo in 2019. That the petitioner and the respondent agreed to build a mall where TannkCo would have its main offices and the Petitioner contributed N10,000,000.00 (ten million naira) for the purchase of the land and the building of the mall. That I know as a fact that the Respondent upon completion of the mall, reneged on the agreement and failed to give TannkCo a space in the mall.”
During the court session on Monday, however, the mother of three failed to prove every claim in her petition, so she withdrew them and chose to settle instead.
She requested $20,000 monthly and a number of her ex-husband’s properties as a settlement.
In its judgement, the court granted joint custody of the children to both parties as ruled on 20 October 2022 and denied Anita any financial compensation in the form of alimony or a settlement.
Meanwhile, Paul Okoye recently unveiled his new lover whom he said he has been dating for a year.
