The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has again been touted as the winner of the 25 February 2023 presidential poll.

According to the results of a new pre-election opinion poll conducted earlier this month, Obi is ahead of three other frontline candidates: Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The poll, which was commissioned by Anap Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Limited, was a follow-up to the first poll in September in which Obi was also in the lead with 23 per cent votes while Tinubu and Atiku were tied in second place with 13 per cent votes each and Kwankwaso polled only three per cent of the votes.

The results of the latest poll showed that 23 per cent of the respondents proposed to vote for Obi if the election was held at the time of the poll, while 13 per cent preferred Tinubu.

Atiku was in third place with ten per cent of the respondents voting for him, and Kwankwaso polled only two per cent of the votes cast.

A breakdown of the results showed that 50 per cent of respondents in the southeast, 46 per cent from the south-south, and 15 per cent from the southwest said they would vote for LP’s Obi.

Seventeen per cent of the respondents from the northwest, 24 per cent from the north-central, and eight per cent from the northeast also aligned with him.

Tinubu got the support of nine per cent of the respondents in north-central, 15 per cent in the northeast, 15 per cent in the northwest, one per cent in the southeast, nine per cent in the south-south and 22 per cent in the southwest.

Atiku was in the lead in the northeast and northwest with 23 per cent and 17 per cent of the votes, respectively. He polled eight per cent in the north-central, one per cent in the southeast, three per cent in the south-south and four per cent in the southwest.

One per cent of the respondents voted for Kwankwaso in the north-central, south-south and southwest. Two and six per cent of the respondents voted for him in the northeast and northwest, respectively and he had no votes in the southeast.

Undecided voters and those who preferred not to reveal their preferred candidate make up 29 per cent and 23 per cent of the votes cast, respectively.

Atedo Peterside, Founder and President of ANAP Foundation, said in a statement on Wednesday that the percentage of registered voters and/or voters with their permanent voter’s card in the northeast is 90 per cent, 89 per cent in the southwest and 88 per cent in the south-south.

He said the lowest voter registration percentages were recorded in the north-central (87 per cent), northwest (86 per cent) and southeast (84).
