The Archbishop, Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has called on the leadership of the state and nation to have a rethink on the broken national unity, apparent injustice and inequality, massive bloodshed, loss of lives and poverty of Nigerian citizens.
Archbishop Ibezim who is also the Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese made the call while delivering his Christmas message in Awka.
The Archbishop maintained that Nigerians are suffering today because of unprecedented insecurity, incessant kidnapping and insurgency, agitations, politics of bitterness and rancor, the menace of Boko Haram and Herdsmen, while telling the government to rise up to their responsibilities.
The prelate enjoined christians to celebrate this season with caution and deep reflection over their national and ecclesiastical life, shunning evil and wickedness, but expressing love to one another which is the hallmark and message of Christmas.
He explained that the mystery and remarkable aspect of Christmas season is the fact that not only Christians engage and celebrate the season, adding that Christmas is a divine global agenda.
Archbishop Ibezim further said that many people misconstrue, misuse and abuse the Christmas season making the euphoria of the season to override the essence of the season, while neglecting the worship aspect of the season.
He explained that Christmas season is a season of good news, good tidings, season of peace, favourable greetings, testimony, and witnessing of the goodness of God through Jesus Christ.
Explaining the essence of the season, Archbishop Ibezim said it is a period christians all over the world rejoice and celebrate the birth of the saviour of the world, Jesus Christ, engage in worship to God almighty, share gifts and rendere welfare services to the less privileged.
