The Borno state Police Command recorded over 600 cases of various crimes between January and December 2022 and secured 314 convictions within the period.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar disclosed this during a media parley at the Command headquarters in Maiduguri, adding that 503 suspects were arrested and prosecuted 372 suspects for committing various offenses.

Umar said out of that number, 102 were cases of rape, 200 cases of terrorism, 30 cases of kidnapping, 28 cases of drug abuse, and 12 cases of political violence.

“Seven cases, involving 12 suspects from APC and two suspects from PDP, for inciting disturbance, threatening persons with violence during a political campaign, unlawful possession of weapons at a political rally, inciting others in a disorderly manner, causing hurt and mischief.

“A significant number of weapons, including 12 locally-made guns, three AK47 rifles, four rocket-propelled Grenades, and a cache of ammunition were recovered.

CP Umar called on political actors, to at all times, “conduct their activities according to the rules” as the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person who violates such rules”.

He commended the IGP for introducing special welfare for the deceased police and widows in the command, which was disbursed worth N 26 million.

The CP also commended Governor Babagana Zulum for donating N25 million for the deceased welfare package and their families early this year, in addition to another N25 million he donated as revolving funds to the NPF Microfinance Bank Limited as a loan facility for the police rank and file.
