A group under the aegis of ‘Enugu Good Governance’ has requested President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and bring to an end the incessant herdsmen and bandits killings in the Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State.

The group asked President Muhammadu Buhari to act swiftly to stop the spate of killings in the Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State by suspected herdsmen and bandits in the last year.

At a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, the Coordinator of the group, Odinaka Okechukwu while condemning the mindless attacks, said the suspected herdsmen and bandits have been operating in the last year, noting that no fewer than 150 persons have been killed in a rage of attacks on the Eha-Amufu and the adjoining communities.

The group also urged the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, and other security chiefs in the country to wade into the crisis in line with their constitutional mandate and restore normalcy in the troubled community.

“It would serve the interest of the good citizens of Enough State for security agents to quickly step up their game as the attacks have been high-jacked by some politicians who are politicizing the situation, even as the crises predated the current administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,”.

“The attacks have sacked the entire community, forcing residents to seek refuge in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in neighbouring communities; resulting in a massive humanitarian crisis,” Okechukwu said.

It, however, commended efforts by the State government to end the conflict in the warring zone but lamented the constitutional limitation of the State Governor to exercise the level of security powers required to end the conflict and restore peace in the community.

“We commend the effort of the Enugu State governor who personally visited the scene to commiserate with the people of the Eha-Amufu community in the latest attack,” he added.
