Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed the reason the proposed alliance with the Labour Party (LP) failed.

LP’s popularity and acceptance grew rapidly among Nigerian youths following Peter Obi’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate after he resigned from his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The NNPP and the LP had wanted to merge ahead of the 2023 general elections but the plans were thwarted due to some irreconcilable differences.

While speaking on his political objectives for Nigeria at the Chatham House in London on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said he was committed to aligning with Obi to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defeat the PDP in the presidential election but both parties couldn’t reach a compromise because the LP was carried away by media hype.

“On Labour Party, I was initially interested in working with them, but at that time, they were at peak of the media hype and we couldn’t reach a compromise. Our party (NNPP) is a national party, and we’re commanding the support of the masses,” Kwankwaso said.
