The Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, FDC, has charged Police operatives to remain steadfast, and resolute and ensure that the fleeing members of the busted armed robbery gang are fished out.

Ammani commended the Operatives for acting on the crime prevention measures of the Command which led to the arrest of 1 of the gang members and the other fleeing members wounded by bullet shots.

The arrest was disclosed via the Command’s official bulletin signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, reference number AZ:5052/ENS/PPRD/VOL.1/180 dated Sunday 29th January 2023.

“Police Operatives serving in Octopus Squad ‘B’ of Enugu State Command, on 27/01/2023 at about 9 pm, conducted an intelligence-guided sting operation, intercepted and busted at Diamond Estate axis of Onitsha Road Enugu, an armed robbery gang, known to perpetrate heinous crimes within Enugu metropolis and environ under the nebulous name of “Unknown Gunmen”.

“One of its members, who gave his name as Chinenye Nwadike (male) aged 32, a native of Mbaitoli in Imo State, but resident at Ndiagha, Amechi-Uwani Enugu, was arrested while others escaped with bullet wounds.”

The operation also led to the recovery of a reported stolen tricycle, firearms, ammunition, charms, and other weapons.

The yellow-colored tricycle recovered was the suspect’s means of transportation and was earlier reported as snatched by the gang at gunpoint in the evening hours of the same date, at Eke-Otu Amechi-Awkunanaw Enugu.

Other exhibits recovered include: “two (2) assault rifles, one (1) English-made and one (1) locally-fabricated Pump Action guns each, one (1) double-barreled gun, three hundred and forty-nine (349) live ammunition of 7.62mm caliber, twenty-five (25) live cartridges, one (1) Monday (sledge) hammer, one (1) Battle axe head, four (4) Machetes, two (2) bottles of Six Followers Perfume and objects suspected to be charming.”

The war against insecurity in the state is a collective effort hence the Commissioner of Police, Ammani enjoins residents of the State to remain law-abiding, and vigilant and continue to assist the Command with credible information to enable them to clamp down on unrepentant criminals.
