…seeks deployment of security to broadcast houses
The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) has condemned the attacks and destruction of the Atlantic Television Network and Wish 99.5 FM stations in Port-Harcourt, the River State capital in the early hours of today.
A statement by the Executive Secretary of BON, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, described the attack as callous, barbaric and highly uncivilized.
He said, “Any attack on any media organisation is an attack on the entire citizens which should not be allowed to happen.
“We call on Police and Department of State Services (DSS) to swing into action to fish out the mastermind of the dastardly act,” Bamgbose stated.
He noted that the ugly development has reinforced the call made last week by BON for provision of adequate security for the media houses across the country.
“We, therefore, call on the National Security Adviser, General Babagana Moguno to consider as a matter of urgency the deployment of military personnel to provide security at the broadcast media houses in the country during the election period.
“In the meantime, we call on the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Alkali Baba to direct the police formations across the country to speedily provide security for Radio and Television houses in each State to prevent the recurrence of the unfortunate incident.”
The BON boss reminded media practitioners to live above board by adhering tenaciously to professional ethics.
