Luck has run out on members of a syndicate who were experts in printing, selling, and supply of fake dollars and new naira notes.

The Director, Public Relations of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Olusola Odumosu in a statement said the commandant – general’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) smashed the syndicates based on credible Intelligence received.

He said two syndicates were arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, obtaining by trick (OBT), and production/circulation of counterfeited US Dollars (USD) and new Naira notes into society.

Their arrest was made possible after one Dantala Omale was lured to Nasarawa from Plateau state and picked up by the squad on February 22, 2023, with fake new naira notes of N412,000.

Suspects arrested with the fake currencies include; Dantala Omale, ‘M’, 30yrs, Plateau State,  Musa Abdullahi, ‘M’ 24yrs, Plateau state, Audu Abdulazeez, ‘M’, 56yrs, Gombe State, Umar Hassan ‘M’, 46yrs, plateau state and Mahammadu Badaru Yakubu ‘M’  30yrs, Nasarawa State.

According to him, four persons were nabbed with fake dollars amounting to $64,800 and N475,000 notes; in addition, fake notes of N1.5m were also recovered from the other five persons.

He said the fraudsters had been operating for years and defrauded many individuals by issuing fake dollar notes under the guise of black market operators exchanging Nigerian naira for Us Dollars.
