In some states, results of Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections conducted nationwide have been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In Adamawa State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the State, Barr Hudu Yunusa-Ari suspended the coalition of the remaining Fufore local government from Sunday to midday Monday following conflicting results.

The suspension followed conflicting results from the local government.

Similarly, the INEC Administrative Secretary for Ebonyi, Mr. Charles Ezema on Sunday announced the suspension of the coalition of governorship results in Ebonyi State until noon today after announcing the results of 12 out of 13 LGAs of the state.

He said results from the LGA on several attempts on Sunday have been unsuccessful because they did not tally with the total number of votes cast.

But, in Kebbi State, INEC has declared the governorship election inconclusive following alleged overvoting and massive cancellation in 20 out of the 21 local government areas of the state.

The Presiding Officer for the governorship election in the state, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu of Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, who made the pronouncement, said the total registered voters for the election, was 203,204 out of which APC polled 388,258 and PDP 342,980 leaving a difference of 45,278.

He said the total valid votes in the election were 792,234, rejected votes 182, and total votes cast 760,438.

Though, results so far announced in some states showed that new governors in Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Katsina states have emerged, while other sitting Governors have been re-elected including Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara) and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa).

In Yobe State, the Returning Officer, Prof. Umar Pate, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, said Governor Mai Mala Buni was re-elected having won the highest votes in all the 17 local government areas of the state with a total of 317,113 votes, beating his closest challenger of the PDP, Alhaji Sharif Abdullahi, with 124,259 votes.

Also, the Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, was reelected as announced by the State Returning Officer, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State, Professor Ishaya Tanko.

He said Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 347,209 against People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, David Umbugadu who got 283,016 votes.

In Katsina State, Dikko Radda od APC emerged as the new governor as announced by the returning officer, Prof. Muazu Abubakar, who said Radda polled 859,892 votes to defeat his closest rival of the PDP, Yakubu Lado, who got 486,620 votes.

The Returning Officer for the governorship in Kano state Professor Ahmad Doko Ibrahim has announced Abba Kabir Yusuf of NNPP as Governor-elect having scored 1,019,602 while the candidate of APC, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna polled  890,705 to come second.

The INEC Returning Officer for Gombe State Prof. Maimuna Waziri, of the Federal University, Gashua, declared the incumbent governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner for scoring 342,821 votes to defeat Muhammad Jibril Barde, of the PDP who polled 233,131 votes.

And in Kwara State, the state returning officer and vice chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Prof. Isaac Itodo declared Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the winner having scored 273,424 votes to defeat his main challenger and candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaib Yaman, who came second with 155,490 votes.

The returning officer for Jigawa State, Prof. Zayyanu Umar of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi said the candidate of APC in the State, Umar Namadi, won in 26 of the 27 LGAs with a total of 618,449 votes, while his closest challenger, Mustapha Lamido of PDP came second with 618,449 votes.

Also, the governorship candidate of APC in Sokoto, Ahmed Aliyu, was declared the winner of the 2023 elections having defeated Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma of the PDP.

Prof. Armiya’u Hamisu, the returning officer, said the APC candidate polled 453,661 votes; while the PDP candidate got 404,632 votes.

The INEC Returning Officer Oyo State, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire said Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  polled 563,756 votes to defeat his closest rival Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Folarin, who got 256,685 votes.

In Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC polled 762,134 votes to defeat Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who polled 312,329, and PDP’s Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, who came a distant third with 62,449 votes.

Also in Ogun State, INEC Returning Officer for the state Prof. Kayode Adebowale declared the incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun of the APC winner who polled 276,298 votes against Ladi Adebutu got 262,383; while African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Biyi Otegbeye, scored 94,754 votes.

The PDP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has won with 354,348 as announced by the state Collation Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Adigio, who is the Vice Chancellor, Nigeria Maritime University while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came second with 136,262 votes, APC third with 129,602 votes.
