Enugu State police have warned against inciting utterances, against the backdrop of the suspension of governorship election result in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The police have also expressed readiness to deal decisively with trouble makers and appreciated the peaceful disposition of the electorate during the elections
Ahmed Ammani, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Enugu State Command urged political parties and supporters to remain law-abiding and patiently wait for further actions by the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the Commission’s suspension of the Governorship Election Results Collation for Nkanu East and Nsukka Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner, while appreciating the peaceful disposition of the electorate during the elections, warned those planning to hide under the elections to foment trouble, to desist forthwith; as the Police will not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or persons found breaching public peace in the state.
The CP further warned political parties, their candidates and supporters to desist from making unguided utterances and using the social media to create and peddle information around the elections, in such a way as to cause tension and/or incite people to violence, especially through unapproved protests in contravention of the provisions of the Public Order Act 2004.
“To this end, citizens of the state have been called upon to quickly report criminal suspects and anyone found breaching public peace to the nearest police station or call the Command’s Control Room numbers on: 08032003702, 08075380883, 08098880172 or call/send WhatsApp messages to 080806671202,” he said
