The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday had approved N5.16bn for the construction of two accommodation facilities comprising 192 flats of various rooms for personnel of the National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency NDLEA.

The Justice Minister who disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the weekly Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said the project will be located in Abuja and would take the two contractors 60 weeks to complete jobs.

He explained that the houses are for the security and safety of NDLEA’s Narcotics Superintendents and Assistants who have come under attack due to their increased anti-drug campaigns in society.

According to him, the campaigns led to 18,940 arrests and seizure of hard drugs worth N40bn as well as 2,904 convictions between the 1st and 3rd quarters of 2022 alone.
