The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested one Bello Abdullahi 30 years, a member of a Vigilante group for gang-raping two Girls in Sangere village, Yola South local government area, of the state while two accomplices are at large.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state SP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje said the suspects lured their victims to a nearby bush in the remote side of the community and forcefully had Carnal knowledge of them.

The statement added that the suspects usurp the power of voluntary security outfits outfits and perpetrated the acts under the guise of patrolling the community to secure the area.

The statement reads in part: “Preliminary investigation reveals that the Suspects took advantage of the Victims by arresting them while pretending to patrol the Area as Vigilantes. Unfortunately, they were threatened, subdued, and forced to submit sexually to all the three Suspects.”

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola,  frowned at the irritable incident and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately Conduct a thorough and Clinical investigation  and ensure diligent  prosecution.”

The statement further said the CP ordered for thorough and clinical investigation, and advised parents to be watchful of their children especially the girl child against criminal-minded elements who are roaming around.

He said immediate prosecution of any perpetrator found wanting and assures the Adamawa State Government and the general public of the Command’s unrelenting effort to end all forms of Gender-Based Violence.
