The committee of Chief Medical Directors/Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals has decried the continuous mass exit of critical health workforce from health institutions to developed countries.
This is contained in a communique issued at the end of its 101 Regular Meeting held in Yola, Adamawa State, noting that without replacement the situation affects the service delivery to Nigerians.
The committee then recommends that a policy be put in place that will allow Hospitals to replace critical personnel who have exited service to guarantee sustained service delivery.
It noted that this would enable the Federal Tertiary Health Institutions to continue to play a crucial role in delivering both basic and advanced healthcare services nationwide.
On power supply, the committee called on the Federal Ministry of Health to address inadequate power supply, coupled with increasing electricity tariffs, and the high cost of diesel.
It also stressed the need for a special intervention to prevent the shutdown of services in Health facilities across the country.
The committee expressed its appreciation to the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Health for the support given to the Health Sector particularly the Federal Tertiary Health Institutions towards achieving the mandate of offering effective healthcare services to our populace.
The Committee noted that there are still challenges with National Health Insurance, especially the unrealistic cost of services and nonpayment of fee-for-service to health institutions by Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and the financial burden placed on federal health institutions, by a continuous increment of accreditation fee/cost by regulatory bodies of health institutions.
It, therefore, called for a review/implementation of appropriate tariffs for services rendered to enrollees to reflect the current economic realities and enforce prompt payment by HMOs for services rendered, to guarantee quality health services to Nigerians.
The Committee also paid a royal homage to the Lamido Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, and briefed the royal father on the activities of the committee.
