The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara state command has recovered fake United States Dollar currency notes and fake newly redesigned N1000 notes worth about N2 million from three persons in the state following their arrest.

The command while parading the suspects at its headquarters on Wednesday in Gusau, the state capital said they were arrested in Gusau on the 3rd of April 2023 while paying for transport fare to a tricycle (Keke Napep) operator with the fake N1000 note.

Two of the suspects are Kamalu Sani 28 years from the Yar-yara area and Suleiman Yusuf 29 years old from Bakin Tasha all from Tsafe Local Government Area in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ikor Oche who stood in for the State Commandant Muhammad Muazu said the Keke Napep operator identified the fake note and raised an alarm that led to the arrest of the criminals.

“Kamalu Sani, who on his arrest was found in possession of the sum of 17,000 naira of fake currency, confessed that Muazu Abdulkarim is the one who supplies the fake currency and that each 1000 fake naira note is exchanged for 400 original notes.”

“The operatives of the Corps traced the supplier of this fake currency to Kwartarkwarshi village where the prime suspect, Muazu Abdulkarim who is at large, directed his 18-year old son, Uzaifa Muazu, who has been in the illicit trade with the father to open a box that contains fake currencies both in naira and U.S Dollars for onward supplies to the suspects.” He said.

According to Sc Ikor Oche, N60,000 fake currency and $2,600 fake U.S dollars were found in the box.

He said Uzaifa Muazu who is the son of the prime suspect Muazu Abdulkarim confessed that his father Muazu Abdulkarim and one Ado Gurugu have been in the business for more than three years and got the fake monies from Kano.
