To give users extra layers of privacy, WhatsApp has rolled out three new security features: account protect, device verification, and automatic security codes.
The additional security features were announced in a blog post by Whatsapp on Thursday.
According to the blog post, the ‘account protect’ feature alerts users of an unauthorised attempt to move their Whatsapp account to another device.
“If you need to switch your WhatsApp account to a new device – we want to double-check that it’s really you,” Whatsapp says.
The second feature, ‘device verification’ is to authenticate users’ accounts without the users having to do a thing and better protect users in case of device compromise as a result of malware.
This, Whatsapp says, lets users to continue using the instant messaging app uninterrupted.
Lastly, ‘automatic security codes’ is a boost to the security code verification feature, which helps to ensure that users are chatting with the intended recipient.
WhatsApp says the new feature is based on a process called ‘key transparency’ that allows users to automatically verify that they have a secure connection.
“What it means for you is that when you click on the encryption tab, you’ll be able to verify right away that your personal conversation is secured,” the post reads.
