Muslims in Nigeria have joined their counterparts across the globe to celebrate the 2023 Eid-El Fitr Sallah celebration, following the sighting of a new moon of Shawwal, thus bringing the end of fasting in the month of Ramadan.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Thursday, authorized Muslims in Nigeria to observe the celebration, Friday 21st, April 2023.

The sermons by various Imams who led two congregational Raka’at prayers centered on love, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Modibbo Adama Central Mosque Yola Town, Khadi Ahmadu Bobboi enjoined Muslims to always forgive one another and imbibe in their daily affairs lessons learned during the month of Ramadan.

Also in his sermon, the chief Imam of Jimeta Central Masjid Eid-ground, Sheikh Nasir Modibbo Nana reminded Muslims of the need to follow the teachings of Islam and feed their families with lawful foods.

“Muslim faithful should sustain the lessons of sacrifice, love, discipline, and supporting each other learned during the period of Ramadan and beyond,” Modibbo Nana said.

He called on Muslims to avoid gossip, backbiting, lies, bribery, and corruption to avoid Allah’s anger.

In his message, the Sultan of Sokoto called on Muslims to live peacefully with one another irrespective of their differences.

He then prayed to Allah to “guide our new leaders right and continue to shower his Blessing on our country”.

Also in his message, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri appealed to the Muslim faithful to adhere to the lessons learned during the spiritual exercise to champion the course of peaceful coexistence and love for the development of Adamawa and Nigeria at large.

“Nigerians are expected to be patient, persevere, love each other, and cohabit as instructed by the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) urging the citizens to live by the dictates of their religion for the overall interest of the nation,” Fintiri said.
