The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III, Alhaji Muhammad Indimi, a philanthropist; former Gov. Boni Haruna of Adamawa, and Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo, a technocrat were conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola during the university’s 27th convocation ceremony on Saturday.

Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur, said the awardees are notable Nigerians that any university will be proud to have.
Tukur, while congratulating the graduands, extolled President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the bill for the conversion of the university from a specialized institution to a conventional University in 2021.
“I am excited to report to this gathering that the conventional status of the University has opened new avenues for the institution, the state, and the region”.

“The university had recorded milestones; including having a faculty of law and recovery of some programs hitherto denied accreditation, as well as the conversion of the Federal Medical Hospital, Yola, to a Teaching Hospital,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the awardees, the Sultan of Sokoto thanked the University for its contribution to the development of education in the country.

He charged the graduands to exhibit good character, noting that knowledge without good character is not beneficial.

In his address, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa congratulated the graduands and praised the awardees for their recognition by the university due to their contributions to humanity.

Also in his remark, Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State urged the institution to invest more in Science and Technology to create jobs for youths in the country.

A total of 4,638 graduates with 63 First Class have been awarded various certificates during the 27th convocation ceremony for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions of the institution.
