Forum (AJF), a non-partisan group has said that it would resist attempts to truncate Abia State governor-elect’s mandate.

Bishop James Okocha, president and founder of the group in an interview on Saturday stated that the mandate given to Alex Otti, winner of the Abia State gubernatorial election is divine.

He said, “It’s unfortunate to hear that the most credible election that took place in Abia State is being tampered with. I wonder why people like darkness. It appears corruption is fighting back, but the truth is that evil will never overcome good and justice. No matter how long darkness resists light in Nigeria, one day Nigeria will be illuminated. It is very clear that some people are trying to tamper with the happiness of Abia people. They are determined to destabilise our peace, but we will resist it, which is why we are calling for prayers.

“Looking at the court judgment you will see that it holds no water and we are not worried about the judgment. The truth is that Abians are solidly behind Otti.    We are standing behind Otti and all the candidates elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

“This is the first time that we are going to have a breath of fresh air in Abia State. The first time that Abia State will be having a government that is not under any form of manipulation. Nobody will be allowed to tamper with such deliverance that God has given to Abia State.

“God is a God of truth and justice. Otti is our Governor-elect. You could see the joy that followed his declaration as the winner. Abia is the only state where you could see and feel the jubilation because it was the first time that the voice of the people could be heard.

“We call on all Abians to be part of the prayer that will be held in Umuahia, on the 26th of May, at the Assemblies of God Church, 7, Item Street. So, AJF is calling Abians to stand in the place of prayer and entreat the hand of God.

“Christ will rule in Abia because it is God’s own state. We will dedicate Abia in the programme that we titled, “Arise Abia” Okocha said.

It will be recalled that a Federal High Court presided over by Justice M N Yunusa nullified the candidature of the Abia State Governor-elect Dr, Alex Otti and all the candidates of the LP in Abia, Kano and the rest the states in Nigeria for failing to comply with the provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

The Court in Suit No FHC/KN/CS/107/2023 filed by Mr Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the LP and INEC, ruled that the failure of the LP to submit its membership register to INEC within 30days before their primaries renders the process invalid.
