The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Enugu state command has destroyed illicit drugs of about 24000kg seized between year 2008 and 2022 in Enugu State.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Marwa represented by the Director of General Investigation, NDLEA, Abuja, Samuel Gadzamal revealed the drugs and quantity set for destruction; Cocaine 21.699kg, Heroin 14.828kg, Amphetamine 0.0618kg, Methamphetamine 24.347kg, precursor chemicals 154.0kg, cannabis sativa 23,225.1kg and pharmaceutical 281.759kg.

Gadzamal called on all Nigerians to team up with government in fighting war against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

He further stated, “The negative implications of these 2 evils are far reaching including but not limited to the adverse effect on health of the people, avoidable road accidents and drug related criminalities.”

The NDLEA boss also commended Governor of Enugu state Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s efforts in curbing the abuse and trafficking of illicit drugs in Enugu communities and society at large.

He also commended the Agency’s international counterparts such as the United States DEA, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UK board force, the German Police and others for the success story of the Agency.

Gadzamal reiterates the Agency’s commission to ridding the nation of hard drugs trafficking and need for sustainability.

“If the present tempo in fighting the scourge of drug menace is sustained with the cooperation from non-state actors and parents, there will be no more weeds and other psychotropic substance in the nation,” he added.

The high point of the occasion was the setting ablaze of the hard drugs by NDLEA Chairman’s representative alongside other government personnel.
