A Saudi-bound aircraft which developed a slight crack on the windscreen shortly after take-off in the evening of Wednesday has made an emergency landing in the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

The aircraft, Boeing 747 operated by Max Air with registration number, Max B747-HMM departed the Dutse airport carrying the first batch of 554 intending Muslim pilgrims from Jigawa state to Saudi Arabia for the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage.

It was leant that lightning had affected the noose of the airplane which necessitated the aircraft to discontinue the journey to Saudi Arabia and make an emergency landing in Kano.

In a statement, the Management of the airline said all passengers have been safely transferred to another aircraft to continue their journey.

The airline assured the public that it maintains standards to ensure the airworthiness of its fleet with international aviation regulations.

In a similar development, there was panic when a United Nigeria Airlines aircraft skidded off runway 18L at the Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal two (MMA2) in Lagos.

The aircraft, 5N-BWW with 50 passengers on board, was flying in from Ebonyi Airport in Abakaliki when the incident happened.

Head, Corporate Communications of the airline, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu said the aircraft was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway, but was landed safely.

“All passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival hall alongside their luggage.

“Officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are at the scene of the incident and alongside UNA engineers are working to move the aircraft to the hangar. NCAA and AIB have also been duly notified and are on the scene. United Nigeria is collaborating fully with the authorities.”

“The airline will maintain the strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritize passenger safety at all times,” he said.
